Pipeline Construction Case Study Tiger Pipeline Wheel Delivers Safety, Savings To Contractor
Item # 58094
Challenge:
A pipeline construction company that specializes in new construction, maintenance, and emergency repair services of gas and liquid pipeline systems was installing 30" pipe on a 40-mile spread in Texas. The company found the current grinding wheels were glazing over, and operators were chipping the wheels with a file to get them to cut. With over 40 welders and helpers working six days a week, safety and productivity are always top-of-mind. The company was looking for an abrasive wheel that eliminates this unnecessary and potentially dangerous step in the fabrication process.
Solution:
Weiler Application Experts worked on the line with several Pipe Gangs. Welder helpers, who tested the wheels, said they never felt the need to chip the Tiger Pipeline grinding wheels to get them to bite into the bead. They also commented that Tiger ran smooth and didn’t chatter or jump out of the bevel like other wheels. Finally, Tiger lasted longer, grinding 29% more than any other wheel tested.
Result:
By switching to Tiger Pipeline 7" grinding wheels, the company eliminated an unsafe practice from their fabrication process and reduced grinding wheel usage, saving an estimated $5,575 over the 2-month installation.
